The Health Sustainability Initiative Capital Fund ($68.5 million from 2003 to 2006) is intended to provide health authorities with capital funds to support four specific types of strategic objectives:
- Health facility conversions
- Community health and mental health services integration
- Realignment of regional services
- Supporting new and innovative service models such as primary care or to establish regional centres of excellence.
Approximately $20 million was approved for 18 projects in seven health authorities in 2004, including support for primary health care models:
Fort Macleod Hospital:
Renovations to consolidate various health services into an integrated community health centre, including emergency services, diagnostic services, community care and clinic space to accommodate five physicians in a primary health care model.
Pincher Creek Hospital - Renovations to relocate Associate Medical Clinic.
Renovations to the Pincher Creek Hospital to relocate an associate medical clinic, under a primary health care model. This will establish an integrated community health centre that will include community care, mental health, physician clinics, acute care beds, emergency services, diagnostic services and long-term care beds.
