Living, working and raising families in safe communities is a top priority for Albertans and their provincial government. Alberta Justice and Attorney General is committed to building a justice system that is efficient, effective and responsive to the needs of all Albertans. Enhancing community partnerships, protecting victims, supporting the needs of families and children, and improving public knowledge and awareness are some of the key initiatives being undertaken to support these goals. We will continue to consult with the public and will consider their input in developing future goals.

In many provinces, policing and prosecutions are the responsibility of one government department. In Alberta, there are two separate ministries, Alberta Justice and Attorney General and Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security. The chart below illustrates the responsibilities of each ministry.
