For
Using Alberta Environment's Websites

Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader

Some documents on the Internet are in a format called "PDF" or Portable Document Format. Alberta Environment has selected this format as a standard for the posting of documents to the websites. To view PDF files, you need to install a software package called Acrobat Reader which is available for free download from Adobe. Downloading and installing the program is easy and takes only a few minutes. After it is installed, you don't need to do anything else—the reader automatically opens and displays any PDF files that you click on.

For information and downloading the latest version of this software go to the Adobe Acrobat site.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Note: The latest version (7.0.5) requires the following:

Windows:

  • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, Windows 2003 Server, or Windows NT SP6 or 6a
  • 128 MB of RAM minimum or 256 MB or greater recommended
  • up to 90 MB of available hard-disk space
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Netscape 7.1 or 8.0, Firefox 1.0 or Mozilla 1.7

Macintosh:

  • PowerPC® G4, G5 processor
  • Mac OS X v.10.2.8 or 10.3 or 10.4
  • 128 MB of RAM minimum, 256 MB or greater memory recommended
  • Up to 110 MB of available hard-disk space
  • Safari 1.2.2 browser supported

If you have less than these requirements or for additional information on Acrobat products go to Adobe Acrobat's alternate site for an older version of Acrobat Reader.

Whenever you see an icon similar to this Adobe PDF Icon on a web site, you know that the link is to a file in PDF format.

Audio and Video Media

Some media files require RealPlayer G2 (or later version) to view the content. If you do not have RealPlayer installed, you can download it from RealNetworks, choosing the link to RealPlayer Basic for the free version.
