NOTICE: Effective April 1, 2005, every Alberta tobacco marker must purchase Alberta tear tape only from licensed tear tape producers. Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) has verified samples submitted by tear tape producers to confirm that the tear tape meets TRA’s standards. Please refer to the TRA website at http://www.finance.gov.ab.ca/publications/tax_rebates/tobacco/Licensed_Tear_Tape_Producers.html for the company names and contact information of the licensed tear tape producers. All other conditions specified in the Tobacco Tax Regulation and all restrictions outlined previously in the approval letter (marking permit) provided to each marker, remain unchanged. Failure to follow those conditions and restrictions may result in a fine of up to $10,000. More serious tobacco marking offences carry fines of up to $1,000,000 and possible incarceration.
