THROUGH THE KEY HOLE

AN INTERACTIVE PLAY BY THE THÉÂTRE PARMINOU

Canadians enjoy a wide variety of close personal adult relationships that are important to them - they may marry or live with conjugal partners, or they may have economic and emotional interdependent relationships with siblings, grandparents, caregivers or best friends. The law has not always recognized this diversity of relationships. The 2001 Law Commission of Canada report Beyond Conjugality - Recognizing and Supporting Close Personal Adult Relationships explores the best ways of supporting a wider range of relationships in Canadian society.

"Through the Key Hole" presents the lives of individuals who are living in a variety of close personal adult relationships and examines ways to recognize and support the choices that they make. The play is an entertaining interactive piece that allows the audience to share their ideas and views. Four scenes explore the diverse range of issues that arise between two lesbians (acceptance), a daughter and her mother (new relationship), a single woman and a custodial father (living arrangements), and a former stepmother, sister and brother (mental disability).

Following a run in Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Halifax and Vancouver, the play is now available to groups. For a minimal fee, you may hire Parminou to mount the play for you. You may also purchase the script from the Théâtre Parminou.
