The Alberta Farm-Renewal Scholarship

 
   
 
 
 
You could be one of three Alberta producers awarded a Farm-Renewal Makeover Scholarship at AgChoices 2006! Open to all producers in Alberta who register for the AgChoices conference, the recipients whose applications best demonstrate a great new idea for growing their operation will be awarded a scholarship package valued at $10,000 each!
Scholarship Description:
Three one-time scholarships valued at approximately $10,000 will be awarded. These scholarships will be awarded based on an outstanding idea for expanding or growing your farm business and will consist of:
  • A full day private consultation and farm visit with agricultural economist Dr. David Kohl and a representative from the Renewal team
  • Participation at the 2006 Growing Alberta events
  • $2500 cash toward the implementation of the successful applicant’s agricultural project
Cash use may include training, further education, hiring additional expertise, or capital items relating to business management or operating needs.

Eligibility Requirements:
The scholarship is available to Alberta farmers who are registered to attend the AgChoices 2006 event. Farmers must be 18 years or older, own farmland in Alberta and must be able to show how they want to expand or add value to their farm.

These scholarships are not available to any Alberta farmer who immediate family member(s) is employed by the Alberta or Federal governments.

How to apply, deadline and mailing address for receipt of application:
The Scholarship application must be received by Wednesday, February 8 at 5:00 pm and MUST be accompanied with your registration form for the AgChoices 2006 event in Red Deer on February 15, 2006. AgChoices 2006 registration forms and Farm Renewal – Makeover Scholarship applications are available for downloading.

Judging criteria and panel:
An independent panel of judges including Dr. David Kohl (Professor Emeritus, Agriculture Economics, Virginia Tech), Mr. Art Froehlich (Managing partner AdFarm) and a Farm Business Consultant from the Canadian Farm Business Advisory Services will review and choose the farmers who best meet the eligibility requirements. The successful candidates will be chosen based on the feasibility and uniqueness of their project in addition to their relevance farm renewal and growth.
