The West Central Conservation Group is partnering with the West Central Forage Association to organize a winter feeding, watering, and fencing tour. Winter feed costs are a large portion of on-farm costs. This tour will showcase some imaginative and innovative ways to reduce those costs. The ideas and practices that will be demonstrated and discussed will be informative and interesting to producers looking to reduce some of those winter feed costs. As well, the tour will include information on some very unique watering systems that have been proven, and participants will have a chance to look at some solutions to winter fencing problems. The tour will start with a talk on low-cost winter options before participants board the tour bus. Tour stops include frost-free watering systems, bale grazing, and swath grazing sites. The tour will visit operations in Wildwood, Evansburg, Sangudo, and Mayerthorpe. The tour originates at the Wildwood Community Hall, Wildwood, on December 14, 2006, and runs from 11:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Registration cost is $10 per person. Space is limited, and participants must be registered to reserve a seat on the bus, so space is limited. For further information and to register, contact Doug Panzer, manager, West Central Forage Association, toll-free at 1-866-725-4447, or Amy Clarkson, conservation coordinator, West Central Conservation Group, at (780) 785-3466 ext 253.
