| A new corporation is being formed that will oversee approvals for innovative, community-driven projects applying for funding through the Rural Development Initiatives Fund. Rural initiatives are one step closer to accessing this $100 million in funding. The two founding members, Bob Clark and Fred Estlin are seeking applications for additional board members. With the support of Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and Alberta Economic Development, they will create an arms-length corporation to deliver the rural development funding focused on contributing to the growth and prosperity of rural Alberta. The corporation will be independent of government and will administer the $100 million in funding announced in Budget 2006 as the next step in the delivery of the Rural Development Strategy. The Board will be tasked with making sound, balanced decisions on projects that will contribute to the long-term sustainability of Alberta's rural communities. It is anticipated the full board of directors will meet in August and will begin considering projects in the fall. Applications are now being accepted for board membership.
