This month, Albertans will have the opportunity to taste some of the best homegrown foods the province has to offer, as Alberta chefs pair up with local producers to create unforgettable dining experiences in celebration of the fourth-annual Dine Alberta: Savour Regional Flavour.

"Dine Alberta provides Albertans the chance to not only enjoy the province's world-class regional cuisine, but to learn about the kinds of high-quality foods we have available right here at home," said Doug Horner, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. "The program has helped form lasting relationships between Alberta producers and the restaurant industry, an essential link to getting more local products on plates across the province."

New this year, a number of participating chefs are making it easier for Albertans to choose the dining experience that best suits their tastes by providing Dine Alberta sample menus online. Over 100 restaurants will feature Alberta specialty products in their menus, including locally grown elk, deer, pork, beef, lamb and bison, supported by over 100 farmers and ranchers. Alberta's best fruits and vegetables will also appear in many dishes, including squash, carrots, potatoes, berries and the province's world-renowned white honey.

The Dine Alberta Passport, introduced last year, provides listings by region of restaurants involved in the program. Albertans can pick up passports at more than 150 locations around the province including participating restaurants and Travel Alberta, as well as Edmonton, Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise tourism information centres. When dining out in September, ask for the Dine Alberta menu and help support locally grown food.

To view sample menus, learn more about participating restaurants or where to pick up passports, visit www.dinealberta.ca or call (780) 644-DINE (3463). Dial 310-0000 for toll-free access outside Edmonton.
