Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development Minister Doug Horner has appointed four new members to the Alberta Grain Commission (AGC).

Three of them, Henry Dechant, Daniel Green, and John Brown began their appointments in August 2006. Ron Popek was appointed in April 2006.

Henry Dechant farms in the Fairview area. Henry normally grows wheat, canola, bromeseed and fescue, and practices direct seeding and other conservation farming practices. Henry has been involved with the local applied research organization for the past ten years.

Daniel Greene farms at Carmangay where he grows cereal grains and pulse crops. Daniel has some irrigated acres and uses direct seeding. Daniel served as the marketing director of Diversified Foods Inc. from 1998 until 2004, a position in which he was responsible for marketing purchased grains to domestic and international markets.

John Brown is one of two department representatives on the AGC. John is Alberta Agriculture's theme lead of crop products and rural growth. In previous roles, John served as branch head of the department's Crop Diversification Centre North, the Agri-Food Laboratories Branch, and the Soil and Crop Diagnostic Centre.

Ron Popek is also a department representative. Ron has worked for Alberta Agriculture for over 26 years in the areas of business analysis, value-added industry development, and in rural development. Ron is currently the director of Rural Investments where he has responsibility for infrastructure programming and other initiatives that support the Rural Development Strategy.

Henry, Daniel, John, and Ron are welcome additions to the Alberta Grain Commission. Together, they bring a wide array of industry knowledge and experience to the AGC table.
