The Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society are a non-profit, charitable
organization formed in 1984 to promote and encourage the use of the Ukrainian
Cultural Heritage Village. The Society believes that the history of our
forefathers should be preserved as an integral component of Alberta’s rich
historical past. We believe that the Ukrainian settlement of east central
Alberta is accurately depicted by the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village,
Provincial Historic Site and will continue to enrich the lives of generations of
individuals through the presentation of this history. The mission of the Society
includes fundraising, promotion and specific program development. These portions
of the mission aid in the enhancement and expansion of the Ukrainian Cultural
Heritage Village.
Numerous efforts are undertaken by the Society to enhance the Ukrainian
Cultural Heritage Village. A strong membership base of over 500 members provides
volunteers for special fundraising dinners, raffles, and casinos as well as for
special site project fundraising initiatives. To become a member please contact
the Society.
Also, the Friends of the Ukrainian Village are proud to present the Historic
Children’s Program held in the months of July and August. This is a weeklong
summer day camp program for children grades 2 to 6 designed to teach the
children and allow the children to experience life in the early 1900’s.
Dressed in historic costumes, the children emigrate from Ukraine to Canada,
settle on a homestead, and begin living the life of a child at the turn of the
century. The week is filled with crafts, games, family homestead life, a day in
a one room school and much, much more!
Become a Friend and keep history alive for generations to come!
