The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is an award-winning provincial
historic site showcasing Ukrainian settlement in East Central Alberta from 1892 to 1930.
We offer a variety of special events and activities for you to enjoy!
Celebration of Spring (Ukrainian Dance Extravaganza)
Monday, May 22, 10 am – 6 am
Who hasn’t heard of the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company? This internationally acclaimed
Ukrainian dance group has entertained audiences throughout the world and we’re proud to be
showcasing this fabulous group at this year’s Ukrainian Dance Extravaganza. Premier and
local Ukrainian dance groups take you on an exciting journey of colorful costumes, flying
red boots and boundless energy as they perform throughout the day. Watch historic settlers
prepare the fields and welcome the new spring season. Other highlights include Kalyna
Country Quilters Guild with their colourful quilt display, Main Street Car Cruisers,
children’s activities, petting zoo, Russo Orthodox church service, sheep shearing,
spring field work and a new team of oxen.
Those Were The Days
Sunday, July 16, 10 am – 6 pm
We’re proud to showcase the “Alberta Country Music Legends” concert, comprised of Alfie
Myhre, Bev Munro, Pete Hicks, Randy Hollar, Joyce Smith and her band “Rodeo Wind. Join
the Village’s own Larry Skarsen and friends for the always poignant, often humorous Cowboy
Poetry readings, songs and stories. There’s plenty of ol’ fashioned fun with historical
activities, demonstrations, exhibits, wagon rides, children’s activities, Village market
and musical entertainment.
Ukrainian Day
Sunday, August 13, 10 am – 6 pm
Live a day the Ukrainian way! This vibrant celebration of Ukrainian culture and heritage
is all about fun, food & festivities. Performers from Ukraine include the Hutsulochka
Singers and musicians Yuri Fejda and Mykailo Pavliuk. Visit the historic Village, then
take in the church & memorial services, centenary pioneer celebrations, followed by a
fabulous concert. Stop in at the Ukrainian community showcase and learn how to make Pysanky
(Easter eggs), and more! Experience “A Taste of Ukraine” food fair. Co-hosted by Ukrainian

Friends’ Ukrainian Music Fest
Sunday, August 27, 10 am – 6 pm
Catch the spirit at the 21st annual Ukrainian Music Festival featuring an outstanding array
of Alberta’s finest Ukrainian folk musicians. Combine dynamic, toe-tapping music with
traditional Ukrainian food and settle in for a fun-packed day at the outdoor amphitheatre.
Visit the historic Village, enjoy roving musicians, children’s activities, Village market
and exhibits.
Harvest of the Past & Heritage Food Festival
Sunday, September 17, 10 am – 6 pm
Described as one of the best autumn events in Canada! This spectacular harvest and food
extravaganza starts with an early-bird breakfast followed by an abundance of Alberta-produced
foods including buffalo, elk, organic foods, Ukrainian foods and desserts. Travel into the
past and take in the nostalgic harvest activities and historic demonstrations including
binding, stooking, baling and threshing. Purchase specialty food items & crafts, watch
demonstrations, and listen to all-day musical entertainment. Other event features include
children’s activities, petting zoo, pony rides, roving musicians and a vintage car display.

Historic Garden Tours
Monday – Friday, July 24 - 28 11:00 am & 2:00 pm
Held in conjunction with Historic Edmonton Week. Discover planting secrets of the day, a
little bit of folklore, and have a visit with a settler or two. Who knows what seeds you’ll
discover? Max. 20 visitors/tour. Please register in advance.
Pich – Clay Ovens
The Village has three historic pich (pronounced peach) or clay ovens, which are renowned for
baking the best tasting bread to come out of a kitchen! View these ovens anytime at the
Grekul, Slemko or Pylypow homes. Follow your nose to see these unique convection ovens in
operation. As we follow actual historic routines, please ask at the reception desk which
ovens are in use.

Feature Exhibit May – October
The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko (Shevchenko Foundation), Ukrainian
Canadian Congress- Alberta Provincial Council, Heritage Canada and the Ukrainian Cultural
Heritage Village are pleased to present Vasile Avramenko Legacy of Ukrainian Dance-an exhibit
marking the contribution of this visionary community leader to the development of Ukrainian
culture in Canada.

September 10 to October 10 (weekends only 10 am - 6 pm)
Special Event Admission:
Adults $8, senior $7, youth (7-17) $4, family $20
