Changes in liquor mark ups effective April 5, 2002

Effective April 5, 2002, liquor mark ups will be affected as follows:

For a typical 750 ml bottle, the mark up increase would be up to 60 cents for spirits, and up to 45 cents for wine.

Graduated beer mark up

Currently, Alberta has a graduated mark up system for beer where the amount of mark up increases with the level of sales. This graduated system will be simplified. Generally, the mark up for a manufacturer that has a worldwide production of over 200,000 hectolitres (hl) per year will increase by about $0.40 for a case of 12. Generally, mark ups for small manufacturers, under 200,000 hectolitres (hl), will decrease by up to $1.65 for a case of 12. This will help ensure that small brewers are competitive in Alberta's marketplace.
