December 20, 2002 Settlement in West Edmonton Mall lawsuit Edmonton… West Edmonton Mall has dropped all claims against the Government of Alberta as part of a settlement that was negotiated between the mall's owners and ATB Financial. The government was a defendant in a counterclaim, but made no claims against any party. "I am pleased that ATB Financial and West Edmonton Mall have resolved all of their outstanding issues," said Finance Minister Pat Nelson. A 1999 investigation by the Auditor General into the ATB refinancing of West Edmonton Mall found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the government.
