January 12, 2004 2002 Alberta Economic Accounts now available Edmonton... The 2002 Alberta Economic Accounts publication, which shows Alberta’s economy grew by 3.2% in 2002, is now available for purchase. Consumer spending was up 2.8% in 2002, down from the 5.0% growth rate in 2001. Spending on durable goods (cars, furniture) went up 7.6%, the third consecutive year of strong growth. These levels indicate that consumer confidence levels about the Alberta economy have remained strong. Personal disposable income was up 5.5% in 2002 after growing 11.4% in 2001 and 10.7% in 2000.
