Regulatory Reform Task Force releases status report for 1997

The second Status Report produced by Alberta’s Regulatory Reform Task Force was released today by Chairman Gary Friedel. This report summarizes the results achieved by every government department up to the end of 1997.

Last December, three year plans for regulatory review were released for the third time. Plans are developed for each government department on an annual basis, outlining upcoming regulation and policy initiatives. These plans are then incorporated into the departments’ three-year business plans, and help to strengthen the government’s planning process. Every plan includes a report card on each departments’ achievements and highlights the steps that will be followed over the next three years.

"This initiative is an important part of this government’s commitment to be open and accountable to Albertans," said Friedel. "It’s become a much larger project than we had originally expected. I hope the end result will prove all the efforts to be worthwhile."

Albertans interested in more details can contact individual departments or Mr. Friedel directly.
