Alberta Receives a Top Grade from Dominion Bond Rating Service

Alberta’s AA rating was upgraded to AA (high) today by the Dominion Bond Rating Service (DBRS), the highest rating the agency has ever given to any province.

"Having DBRS come out with a rating higher than any rating they’ve ever assigned to a province is proof, once again, that we’re on the right track, and that we must stay the course of fiscal responsibility," said Alberta Treasurer Stockwell Day.

DBRS cited that the upgrade is a result of Alberta having the strongest financial profile of all provinces, the lowest debt to GDP ratio, and achieving a sustainable fiscal program that can accommodate the volatile nature of resource-based revenues.

The DBRS rating of AA (high) ensures that Alberta will continue to have the lowest cost of borrowing.
