MEDLEY CFB SOCIETY
CWO PETER STAUFFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Medley CFB Society – CWO Peter Stauffer Memorial Scholarship was created this year by the Medley Society to recognize and encourage students entering Post Secondary Education.

CWO Peter Stauffer was a key member of the Medley CFB Society. He was known for his commitment and support to the Cold Lake community in general. In his role as Wing Chief Warrant Officer, Peter’s emphasis was on developing the character of the military family and the Quality of Life for the community in general. Peter Stauffer passed away on 19 September 2004.

AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP

It is intended that two scholarships of $1000.00 be awarded each year.

QUALIFICATION FOR APPLICANTS

In order to be considered for the scholarship, applicants must be:

  • Student/dependents of those who are presently serving in the Canadian Forces Regular or Reserve, DND employees and NPF employees at 4 Wing Cold Lake;
  • Applicants must have achieved a consistent academic standing in their Grade 12 year at Grand Centre High School, Assumption Junior/Senior High School, Ecole Voyageur, Bonnyville Comprehensive High School, Ecole Notre Dame High School or are home-schooled in the MD of Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Bonnyville Off Campus school;
  • Have demonstrated outstanding qualities in the areas of leadership, community spirit and involvement in extra-curricular activities; and
  • Plan on pursuing full-time post-secondary studies at a recognized educational institution.

CONDITIONS OF THE AWARD

Two students annually will be eligible for this scholarship.

Applicants must meet all of the above stated qualifications.

Applicants must prove acceptance at a recognized post-secondary institution.

APPLICATION

Application forms will be made available from the Medley CFB Society.

Students must provide the following supporting documentation with their application form:

  • Typed 500-word essay on one of the following topics:
    • What is Quality of Life? (How have you improved the Quality of Life in your community)
    • What is Leadership? (Own leadership ideas/experiences)
    • What is Community Spirit? (How they have contributed)
  • Two letters of reference (no family members allowed);
  • Confirmation of Enrolment from a recognized post-secondary institution; and
  • Proof of Grade 12 grades up to date of application.

Students must complete the application form and submit it, with all supporting paperwork, to the Scholarship Committee by the deadline.

ADMINISTRATION

The scholarship will be administrated and awarded by the Medley CFB Society Scholarship Committee on an annual basis.

All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by 15 June 2005.

All applicants will be given a score based on their grade 12 average and demonstrated leadership and community involvement. The highest ranked applicant of will receive the scholarship.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

All applications must be received at the Medley CFB Society Scholarship Committee no later than 1 June 2005.

PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD

The certificate, along with the cheque, will be awarded at the school year-end Awards’ Day by the Medley CFB Society Chairman or his designate after confirmation of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary institution.
Proof of attendance – following commencement of school.

ADVERTISING  

Each year in March the Medley CFB Society Scholarship Committee shall cause an advertisement to be promulgated reminding students of the existence of this scholarship and encouraging applications on the part of qualified individuals.
