Rights & Democracy, in partnership with The Regional Human Security Centre (Amman, Jordan) hosted a workshop entitled Rights, Pluralism and Human Security in the Middle East and North Africa: Putting Ideas into Practice on June 22-23 in Amman. Some 35 participants, representing various sectors of civil society and government, came from Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco, Turkey and Yemen. Themes discussed included: the Islamic roots of pluralism and human rights; the legal dimension of rights, pluralism and human security; citizenship, civic education and political culture; and the effective role of the media. Rights & Democracy President, Jean-Louis Roy, participated in the workshop and took part in a public roundtable discussion. During his visit, Mr. Roy also met various government officials and civil society representatives.
