Parliamentary Review of PIPEDA

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) includes a provision for a mandatory review by Parliament every five years.

    29. (1) The administration of this Part shall, every five years after this Part comes into force, be reviewed by the committee of the House of Commons, or of both Houses of Parliament, that may be designated or established by Parliament for that purpose.

The review of Part I of the Act began on November 20, 2006 and is being undertaken by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI). Organizations and individuals who are interested in submitting an oral or written brief to help the Committee in its deliberations are advised to contact the Committee Clerk as per the Review notice.
