The Border Information Service - BIS is a computerized, 24-hour telephone service that automatically answers all incoming calls and provides general customs information. With the help of a touch-tone telephone, clients can hear recorded information. If you are calling during office hours and need additional information on a particular topic, you can press "0" to speak to an agent.

Summary
BIS provides information on various Customs topics, in both official languages, including:
- personal and commercial importations and exportations, travellers' exemptions;
- commercial as well as personal postal information;
- trade agreements;
- currency exchange rate information;
- residency information.
Clients who call from a rotary-dial telephone will not be able to hear the BIS recorded information. However, if the call is placed during office hours, it will be transferred directly to an agent.
