Application for Registration of a Copyright
in Other Subject-matter
Instructions



1. Title of the subject-matter (if any)
Enter the specific title of the subject-matter. Please note that the application must refer to only one performer's performance, sound recording or communication signal.

2. Subject-matter- Type
Check the subject-matter and complete part A, B or C to which the application applies. The following definitions from the Copyright Act may be helpful.

Performer's performance:
Means any of the following when done by a performer:
(a) a performance of an artistic work, dramatic work or musical work, whether or not the work was previously fixed in any material form, and whether or not the work's term of copyright protection under this Act has expired;
(b) a recitation or reading of a literary work, whether or not the work's term of copyright protection under this Act has expired; or
(c) an improvisation of a dramatic work, musical work or literary work, whether or not the improvised work is based on a pre-existing work.

Sound recording:
Means a recording, fixed in any material form, consisting of sounds, whether or not of a performance of a work, but excludes any soundtrack of a cinematographic work where it accompanies the cinematographic work.

Communication signal:
Means radio waves transmitted through space without any artificial guide, for reception by the public.

3. Owner(s)
Complete parts A and C or B and C depending on whether ownership is to be in the name of an individual or a corporation. The copyright owner is the performer in the case of a performer's performance, the maker in the case of a sound recording, or the broadcaster in the case of a communication signal or any person who has obtained ownership through a transfer of ownership such as an assignment. Copyright in other subject-matter can be registered in the name of one or more individuals or corporations. If there is more than one owner, copy(ies) of page 1 containing the additional owners' information should be attached.

4. Declaration
In this section, the applicant must identify himself/ herself by checking only one box, declaring that he/ she is the owner, an assignee or a licensee of the copyright in the subject-matter.

5. Agent (if any)
This section is to be completed only if the application is being submitted by an agent. The certificate of registration will be sent to the name and address given in this section. If this section is not completed, the certificate will be mailed to the owner named in section 3.

A $65 fee must accompany each Application for Registration.

Please note that payment may be made by credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express), direct payment, deposit account, postal money order or cheque payable in Canadian dollars to the Receiver General for Canada. Do not add federal and provincial taxes.
