How much does CIDA spend?

In 2004-2005, the Government of Canada allocated $3.74 billion to international assistance, including the extraordinary humanitarian relief contribution given in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami. Even excluding this relief aid, this amount was 21 percent larger than the previous fiscal year.

By 2008-2009, Canada's aid to Africa will be double its 2003-2004 level.

Canada is committed to making progress towards the internationally agreed upon target of devoting 0.7 percent of gross national income to official development assistance.
