Who requires a licence?

Any radio system operating in Canada requires a licence from Industry Canada to operate, unless the need for a licence is specifically excepted in the Radiocommunication Regulations.

Microwave users requiring a licence include telecommunications companies, carriers, utility companies, broadcasters of distributed signals, the Department of National Defence, and others. Land mobile users requiring a licence include security companies, taxis, and government agencies.

For more specific information, refer to the Radiocommunication Regulations.
