On-line Forms at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)

In addition to accepting applications and other documents by mail or by fax, CIPO also offers on-line forms to clients. Applications and certain other documents for Patents, Trade-marks, Copyrights, Industrial Designs and Integrated Circuit Topographies may now be sent on line. Summary of On-line Forms .

Secure Server

Since applications, related correspondence and credit card details are confidential, this information is encrypted during transmission using 128 bit encryption. In order to access the Strategis secure server, the client must be using a 128 bit browser and register with Strategis.

Strategis Registration

The CIPO Web site is a sub site of the Strategis web site. Clients must register with Strategis by creating a username and password, before they can access the secure server. Both the username and password should have a minimum of six characters (letters and/or numbers) without accents or special characters. The client creates a challenge question and answer to be used to identify the client should a problem occur with the password and provides basic personal information. Once registered, the client may access all secure services offered by CIPO through Strategis. This registration is free and does not need to be renewed. Updates may be made at any time.
