Small Business Statistics program

This program provides information on small businesses by making use of administrative taxation records. It provides an array of statistics on the small and medium size enterprises and their financing activities.

• Small Business Profiles present the following items at the national, regional, provincial and territorial levels and by industry (based on the 1980 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC), 1997 or 2002 North American Industrial Classifications System (NAICS)) for unincorporated and incorporated businesses. Data are available for 1993, 1995, 1999, 2000 (and 2002 in Summer 2004).

  • Net profit/loss
  • Balance sheet items
  • Selected financial ratios
• Financing of Small and Medium sized enterprises statistics presents results from the 2000 and 2001 surveys on SME owner characteristics, start-up firms, type of financing (debt, leasing and equity) requested by SME's; approval rates and conditions offered by suppliers of loans.
• Employment Dynamics show the following items by business size at the national and provincial and territorial levels. Data are available for 1983 to 1999 on the 1980 SIC in a CD ROM format. More recent 2000 and 2001 data are available upon request.
