About the Library

Objectives

To develop and deliver an integrated and comprehensive library, documentation service and clearinghouse on housing, community planning and development for use by Corporation staff, the housing industry and the Canadian public.

To take a leadership role in the management of knowledge at CMHC by preserving and providing access to CMHC’s corporate memory, which includes final reports of research projects, audiovisual materials and other resources relating to all activities supported by CMHC.








Collections

Description

The Centre's collections consist of approximately 75,000 volumes, some 180,000 images and over 1,500 current subscriptions to scientific and technical periodicals. The collection policy is devoted to the needs and objectives of CMHC as a whole, and the collections reflect and support the mandate of the Corporation. The Centre's main holdings are in the fields of housing and community development and include the Corporation's collection of research reports. Other subject areas include management, economics and finance, public administration and public policy.

How to Find Material in the Collections

The key to finding material is through the Centre's catalogues. For all materials with the exception of images, you can consult the Centre's online catalogue. Images are located through separate catalogues maintained by staff of the Centre's Photo-library.

A small portion of older historical material is accessed through a print catalogue located within the Centre. You can contact us to request a search of this material.
