Healthy Highrise explores the building science issues and provides guidance to enhance envelope design, energy performance, indoor air quality and environmental performance, accessibilitly and green infrastructure.

A Guide to Innovation in the Design and Construction of High-Rise Residential Buildings

  • Chapter 4: Enhancing Environmental Performance
Buildings can be designed to be less damaging to our environment. Better site planning, materials selection, solid waste disposal, water and landscape practices can all make significant progress towards this goal. Noise control strategies can augment occupant satisfaction. Some case studies demonstrate how others are achieving results.
  • Chapter 5: Enhancing Accessibility
Consideration of the needs of people with disabilities can make a building design more attractive to all and open doors to new clients. The basic tenents of affordable flex housing(TM) and barrier-free design are explored.
  • Chapter 6: Green Infrastructure
This chapter explores the integration of new on-site infrastructure technologies which are now being considered in various parts of the world. Waste and water treatment, water reuse, energy systems, transportation and communication systems can now be integrated at the neighbourhood or building scales.
