Following extensive consultations with our clients, throughout 2007, CMHC will be enhancing a number of its market analysis products to offer more comprehensive and timely information on the rental market, new products covering renovation expenditures and much more.
Spring Rental Market Survey — Spring 2007
In April 2007, CMHC conducted its spring rental market survey, with results published in June. The April survey provides higher-level information on key rental market indicators such as availability and vacancy rates, and rents that will give users access to more timely information on market trends. The April survey is in addition to CMHC's Rental Market Survey conducted in October, the results of which are reported in December.

Annual Renovation and Home Purchase Report — Spring 2007
In June 2007, CMHC published the results of its new annual Renovation and Home Purchase survey which tracks the renovation market in the following ten major centres: St. John's, Halifax, Québec, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Home purchase activity in Halifax, Montréal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver is also covered. A highlights report that identifies key trends, analyses and statistics is also be available.

Housing Market Outlook Highlights Reports — Spring 2007
Ideally suited to users who want high level, ‘at a glance’ information on housing market trends and forecasts, these new highlight reports are available commencing in May 2007. Quarterly publications are available for Canada and five geographic regions. Regional highlight reports contain key forecast information for each province and census metropolitan area in the region. An annual publication covering Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit is also available.

Publications for Additional Centres
Throughout 2007, CMHC will be adding Abbotsford, Kingston, Peterborough, Barrie, Guelph and Brantford to market analysis reports covering major centres in Canada. These centres will be covered in CMHC's , , and series.
Secondary Rental Market Information
CMHC's rental market reports have been enhanced to cover not only row and apartment rental units, but also the secondary rental market, which includes apartment condominiums, single, semi-detached, and duplex units in a number of major centres across Canada.
When fully introduced in 2007 CMHC's expanded reports will provide industry, consumers and governments with rental market information covering close to 100 per cent of the rental market in these major centres.

More on CMHC's New Secondary Rental Market Surveys and Centres Covered
CMHC's Fall Rental Market Survey, which covers row and apartment structures with 3 or more units, has been expanded to include additional types of rental accommodation referred to as the Secondary Rental Market, (SRM), in selected centres.
The expanded coverage was achieved through the addition of three new surveys, which were the result of extensive research on alternative methodologies and pilot testing of survey instruments.
- A Condominium Apartment Vacancy Survey to obtain vacancy information from property managers and owners of apartment condominiums.
- A Condominium Apartment Resident Rent Survey to obtain rent information from residents of apartment condominiums.
- A Household Survey to collect rent information for single, semi-detached, duplex and accessory suites or secondary apartments units in the SRM.
Where Will the Surveys be Introduced and When?
Both annual Condominium Surveys were completed in late Fall 2006 in Québec, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
The annual SRM Household Survey was introduced in Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver in the Fall of 2006 will be extended to St. John's, Halifax, Québec, Ottawa, Barrie, Calgary, Edmonton, Abbotsford and Kelowna in September 2007.
