CMHC Supports Habitat for Humanity

Housing Dream Comes True for Ontario Region Habitat Families

CMHC sponsored Habitat for Humanity 2004 builds and events in Toronto, London, Windsor, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie. Habitat for Humanity is an independent, charitable housing program dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing by building homes in partnership with families in need.

In 2003 and again in 2004, Habitat for Humanity was designated as the charity to receive all proceeds from CMHC's Ontario corporate golf and baseball tournaments. Over $22,000 was raised to support Habitat for Humanity's 2004 activities in Ontario.

Habitat for Humanity Toronto

CMHC contributed $60,000 as an Adopt-a-House sponsor of the 40-home "Breakthrough Build" at McLevin Woods in Toronto. This is the largest ever Habitat build in Canada.

Close to 100 CMHC employees and clients helped construct floor and wall panels for the homes at the Habitat Toronto factory in a blitz build in August 2003. These components were moved to the building site where CMHC staff participated in the on-site construction during a blitz build from June 26 to July 18, 2004.

Habitat for Humanity Windsor

In Windsor, a groundbreaking ceremony for eight town homes took place on June 30, 2004. As part of the fundraising efforts, CMHC provided $14,000 as a "Leading Sponsor" and "Key Member of the Kick-Off Team" for the Blitz Build in Windsor-Essex County. In addition, CMHC contributed volunteer labour and new homeowner education. The homeowners received free copies of CMHC's Homeowners Manual, a useful tool in helping new homeowners maintain their home.
