Overview - Saskatchewan Housing Corporation
Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) is a Crown corporation operated
by Saskatchewan Community Resources. SHC provides access to affordable,
suitable and adequate housing for people who have an identified
need and who could not afford it without assistance.
The development, delivery and administration of housing programs
in Saskatchewan is at the direction of SHC. Delivery and administration
costs are funded by the provincial, federal and municipal governments.
Programs are generally targeted to specific segments of the population
where there is an identified need for assistance.
The day-to-day management of 30,400 housing units and the co-ordination
of services to tenants are provided through a network of local housing
authorities, non-profit organizations, housing co-operatives and
private landlords, and by SHC. SHC owns approximately 18,400 units,
with the balance owned by non-profits, co-operatives and other private
interests.
SHC also delivers a variety of home repair programs designed to
assist low-income homeowners, and sometimes landlords. Assistance
may be in the form of a forgivable or repayable loan or may be a
grant.
