United States
As Canada’s largest market for housing exports in 2001, the United States continues to offer exceptional growth potential for both new and experienced exporters.
Over 1.59 million new single and multifamily dwelling units are forecast to be built in the United States this year alone, with an estimated contract value of US$220 billion. Significant opportunities also exist in the renovation market, which has become almost equal in economic importance to new construction. Plus, considerable niche opportunities continue to open for Canadian exporters in the areas of energy efficiency and healthy housing.
Overall, as interest rate reductions, tax cuts, an economic stimulus package and low inflation boost economic performance, growth in the US is expected to reach 1.5% in 2002, with 3-4% growth in the 4th quarter of the year.
