John Williams, M.P. for Edmonton–St. Albert, attended the gala opening and announced a $60,000 contribution from the Government of Canada's Commercial Building Incentive Program (CBIP). “The New Government of Canada is committed to improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to benefit the health of Canadians,” said Mr. Williams on behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources. “The energy-efficient design of this building will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also produce savings of more than $84,000 a year.” Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency encourages the design of new, energy-efficient buildings and facilities through CBIP. Design features of the facility include advanced heat recovery systems as well as low-flow faucets and a lighting-control system with occupancy sensors. These features will reduce energy use by an estimated 28 percent over current standard Canadian building practices. Mr. Williams presented the facility with a plaque to acknowledge the energy-efficient design of the building. Along with the Clear Air Act, the Government of Canada is promoting energy efficiency as a cleaner way to use energy. This is an example of our commitment to invest taxpayers' dollars in real projects that achieve real results for a clean environment.
