Site Map
Top of page To discover what can be found on Marine Services On-line, take a look at the site map. It provides a comprehensive list of the main topics that appear under each of the navigation bar buttons and in the left-side menu listing.

Search Engine
Top of page The search engine was designed to function best when queries are entered as Natural Language questions. Simply type in your question as you would have asked it when speaking to another person, and you will receive better results than a typical Keyword or Boolean query would return. Being able to use Natural Language also means that your questions can be quite elaborate, thus leading to more accurate and concise results.

For example, if what you're looking for is information about ship registry in Canada, you are better off typing into the search box How to register a ship or boat in Canada? than simply typing in registry. The longer query will return just a concise list of highly relevant results, while the shorter, more general query, will deliver a longer list of results that you will have to sort through.

This search engine is equipped with a spell checker that will automatically verify the spelling of all the words in your queries. When a misspelling is found, it will appear at the top of a drop-down menu on your search results page. Simply select the correct alternative from the drop-down menu, and click the Resubmit button to run the search again using the correct spelling.

You may also choose to display your list of results in a variety of ways. For example, to display more or less results per search results page, simply input your desired number of results per page into the appropriate field, and click Apply.

The following 3 options are also given: (i) to display the best matching part of each document that is returned in the list of results (i.e., the part of each document that best matches your particular query); (ii) to display each document's URL; and (iii) to display the date of each document that is returned. You can select or de-select any of these 3 options, in any combination, simply by clicking the box next to each, and then clicking Apply.
