Under the competitive process, projects are selected for funding through solicitation of proposals from
private sector enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities,
public agencies, academia and First Nations. An Applicant’s Guide is published for each call for proposals; setting
out the criteria proposals must meet. Proposals must address the objectives of the ITS Plan, the national ITS
architecture and predetermined eligibility criteria. Inter-provincial and
international cooperative agreements, partnerships, or other arrangements
intended to promote regional and intermodal cooperation, planning, and shared
project implementation for ITS technologies are encouraged.
To date, three calls for proposals have been held, with the most recent closing on July
29, 2004. In total, fifty-eight (58) projects have been competitively selected for cost-shared funding. Projects include feasibility, planning and
integration studies that assess and guide the deployment of ITS; deployment of
ITS systems; systems integration projects to achieve interoperability and
compliance with the ITS architecture for Canada; pilot ITS projects involving
intergovernmental and private sector cooperation; and ITS projects of national
scope or that promote cross-Canada applications. Links to all projects, by
geographic area, are listed below:
