Border Information Flow Architecture
Transport Canada and the Federal Highway Administration are co-leading the development of a Border Information Flow Architecture
The Architecture could help guide a deliberate effort to ensure that
technology deployed at border crossings are able to interact with each other. Federal, state and provincial agencies from both sides of the border have
been actively participating in the working group.
Intelligent Border Crossing
Transport Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) have engaged a consultant team to
develop an Action Plan for
the deployment of ITS at Ontario’s international border crossings. The Action Plan will
include a concept of operations which provides a vision for how technology can
help move people and goods to and across the Ontario-United States borders; a
multi-year strategy for implementing ITS solutions at Ontario’s border
crossings; and preliminary design of the approved ITS solutions. Throughout the duration of the project, the
consultants will identify several “early win” projects that can be initiated in
the short term. The federal portion of the project is funded through the Border Infrastructure Fund (BIF).
Workshops
Transport Canada’s ITS Office has sponsored a number of workshops to provide an opportunity for information exchange on current and planned ITS systems,
projects and products at points of entry along the Canada - United States border, ports, and along corridors. So far, the workshops include:
Enabling Secure Trade
Ottawa, February 25, 2003.
Goods, Ports Borders and Corridors
Halifax, Nova Scotia December 1, 2004.
Possible future workshops in other cities.
