CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR INTELLIGENT
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS DEPLOYMENT PROJECTS
OTTAWA - Transport Minister Tony Valeri today issued a call for proposals for
deployment projects under the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
Deployment and Integration Plan.
"The Government of Canada is committed to promoting the adoption of new and
innovative technologies to make Canada's multimodal transportation system
safer, integrated and more sustainable," said Mr. Valeri. "In fact, in the
2004 federal budget, companies are being encouraged to adopt new technologies
which will increase productivity and create more jobs."
ITS plays an important role in the Government of Canada's Innovation
Strategy, the goal of which is to nurture innovation every step of the way -
from pure research, to applied science, to product development and deployment.
This is the third call for proposals for deployment projects under the ITS
plan, which provides leadership and support to advance the application and
compatibility of ITS technologies.
The types of proposals eligible for funding include:
- feasibility, planning and integration studies that assess and guide the
deployment of ITS;
- proposals for deployment of ITS systems;
- systems integration projects to achieve interoperability and compliance
with the ITS architecture for Canada;
- pilot ITS projects including intergovernmental and private sector
cooperation; and
- ITS projects of national scope or that promote cross-Canada applications.
Eligible applicants include municipalities, non-profit organizations, public
or private transportation authorities/agencies, First Nations, academia and
private enterprises. Partnerships are encouraged.
Applicants must submit their proposals by July 29, 2004.
More information for applicants on the ITS plan and an Applicant’s Guide
are available on the ITS website. (www.its-sti.gc.ca)
