December 2, 2005

Text containing an apostrophe can now be processed by the search engine.

July 12, 2005

In addition to the word "don't", the following terms cannot be processed by the search engine: shouldn't, isn't, weren't. To search for text containing any of these terms, or other terms containing an apostrophe, replace the apostrophe with a space. See the Help Guide for more information on search for special characters.

July 5, 2005 - Searching text containing the word "don't"

It should be noted that the search engine cannot process text which contains the word "don't". As an alternative, you can replace the apostrophe with a space (e.g. "don t" is searchable).

July 17, 2003 - Searching text containing a dot

Please note that the search engine can now process text which contains a dot (e.g. "chapters.ca" is searchable).

June 16, 2003 - Searching text containing a dot

It should be noted that the search engine can not process text which contains a dot (e.g. "chapters.ca" is not searchable). As an alternative, you can search "chapters" in the search line 1 and "ca" in the search line 2. By searching "chapters*", the word "chapters.ca" will be captured in the results.

May 21, 2003 - UPDATE - Important Notice

The problems with the search engine reported on April 30, 2003, have been resolved. We are in the process of implementing additional quality control procedures to ensure that these problems do not recur. In the interim, until these procedures are in place, the official index that is required to be kept under the supervision of the Registrar of Trade-marks, pursuant to subsection 28(1) of the Trade-marks Act, is the Trade-marks Database on the CIPO intranet site (available in the Client Service Centre, at 50 Victoria Street, in Gatineau). The official register that is required to be kept under the supervision of the Registrar of Trade-marks, pursuant to subsection 26(1)(a) of the Trade-marks Act, is the INTREPID database.

April 30, 2003 - IMPORTANT! Notice to Users of the Trade-marks Database

We are continuing to experience problems with the new search engine that was put into production on March 3, 2003. It is displaying incomplete search results when using the Vienna Classification. Accordingly, clients should not rely on these search results. Searches can still be performed using other available criteria.

Until these technical difficulties are resolved, the official index that is required to be kept under the supervision of the Registrar of Trade-marks pursuant to subsection 28(1) of the Trade-marks Act is the Trade-marks Database on the CIPO intranet site (available in the Client Service Centre, at 50 Victoria Street, in Gatineau). The official register is the INTREPID database.
