President's Message

Welcome to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. As Canada's national housing agency, we contribute to improving the living conditions and the well-being of Canadians.

In 2006, CMHC proudly celebrates 60 years of service to Canadians. While the most visible legacy of our first 60 years is the housing we see in communities across Canada, it is the difference we have made in the lives of Canadians that remains our most enduring contribution to this country. Together, with our valued partners, we have made a difference in community after community, and family by family, in all regions of Canada.

Our mortgage loan insurance program enables Canadians to purchase a home with as little as a 5 per cent down payment. We provide financial assistance to help Canadians most in need to gain access to safe, affordable housing. Through our research, we encourage innovation in housing design and technology, community planning, housing choice and finance. We offer a wide variety of information products to consumers and the housing industry to help them make informed purchasing and business decisions. We also work with our government partners and industry to promote Canadian products and expertise in foreign markets, thereby creating jobs for Canadians here at home.

In everything that we do, we are committed to helping Canadians access a wide choice of quality, affordable homes, and making vibrant and sustainable communities a reality across the country. CMHC is home to Canadians.
