Boating Law EnforcementPlay by the rules and avoid a ticket! Enforcement agencies in many provinces may issue tickets on the water for many federal offences. Under the Contraventions Regulations (now in the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia) authorities can ticket offenders on the spot for offences such as not having the required safety equipment, disobeying speed limits, and careless operation of a vessel, instead of requiring them to appear in court. Be well-equipped on the water as it is your responsibility to stay informed. For further information on boating offences, please visit the Department of Justice Canada site.
