Q: How do I authenticate a document?

A: For information on how to have Canadian documents authenticated, so that they will be acceptable for use outside Canada, contact the Authentication and Service of Documents section.

Q: How do I obtain a statement in-lieu of certification of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad?

A: If you are getting married overseas, most countries will require a statement in-lieu of certification of non-impediment to marriage abroad. You can apply for one by mail to the Authentication and Service of Documents
section before your departure. Canadian consular officials abroad can also assist you in this matter. For more information, see our Legal and Notary Services section.
