Introduction
SID is DIAND-NWT’s Spatially Integrated Dataset. The dataset holds Spatial Information for DIAND. It contains spatial, digital data that is maintained by DIAND as well as several datasets prepared by others that are useful to DIAND users.

The map displayed by the viewer is provided for illustrative purposes only. It is a compilation of data obtained from many sources and the data is subject to change without notice. The Department of Indian and Northern Affairs cannot warrant or guarantee that the information is accurate, complete or current at all times. The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development accepts no responsibility or liability for any errors, inaccuracies and/or omissions. Where the map differs from actual post locations on the ground, the ground location takes precedence.

Notes
The Mineral Claims data does not appear in the table of contents until you are zoomed in to a scale factor less than 1000. The scale factor can be seen in the status bar at the bottom of your web browser.

If you want to use one of the tools on a layer, that layer will have to be made active before the tool is used. To do this click the radio button next to the checkbox that makes the layer visible. In the text window at the bottom of the viewer it should tell you that the layer is active.

If you get the error "Response from previous request(s) not received" click the OK button and wait for the initial request to process and then try again.


Help for SID Viewer Online
Layer/Legend Layer/Legend: This tool toggles the table of contents frame between a legend image and the list of layers.
Toggle Overview Toggle Overview: This button toggles the Overview Map in the upper left hand corner of the map. When the map is on, click once on this button with the mouse and the Overview Map with disappear. If it is off, click once and the Overview Map will appear.
Zoom In Zoom In: Click or drag a rectangle on the map to zoom in.
Zoom Out Zoom Out: Click or drag a rectangle on the map to zoom out. (The smaller the rectangle, the more the zoom out.)
Initial Extent Initial Extent: Click this button to return to the initial map extent.
Zoom to Active Theme Zoom to Active Theme: Click this button to change the map extent to that of the current active theme.
Last Extent Last Extent: Click this button to return to the previous map extent.
Pan Pan: Use this tool to drag or center the map extent while maintaining the same scale.
Identify Identify: Use this tool to display attributes on features of the active theme that you click on.
Query Query: Click the Query button and look at the Bottom Text Area, where you will be prompted to supply information for a query. Select the layer you would like to query, then the operator, and value to match against for the query (THE QUERY IS CASE-SENSITIVE). If you are querying text the value must be put in double quotation marks. You can also click the Get Samples button to get a list of values from the attribute table to choose from. Hit the Add to Query String button. Keep doing this till your query is complete. Then hit the Execute button. Matching features will be highlighted, plus their attributes listed in the Bottom Text Area. If there are several matches, you can click one of the query result records to select and highlight it.

For example, If you wanted to find the mineral leases owned by Cominco Ltd. you must first make the mineral leases layer active. Then click the query button. Then under the field header use the pull-down menu and scroll down and select L_OWNERS.OWNER_NAM1. Leave the operator as = and under the value header click the get samples button. Then in the pulldown menu that was generated under the value header click "Cominco Ltd.". Then click the Add to Query String button and then the Execute button. The application will return the first 25 records found of leases that are owned by Cominco Ltd. You can click the more records link at the bottom of the table to see the rest of the records.

Find Find: First set the active layer to the layer to use the Find command with. The Find command displays a text box and button below the map. The user enters text and press the button to begin the search (THE SEARCH IS CASE-SENSITIVE). The search will look in all fields of the feature. If more than one match occurs then the user may select the Rec number from the table to zoom to the chosen feature.
Measure Measure: Point at a location on the map and click the left mouse button to start measuring from. As the cursor is moved the values in the upper part of the map change. As additional points are made the Total field shows the total measurement while the Segment field show the measurement for the current mouse movement. Use Clear Selection to clear results.
Set Units Set Units: Click the Set Units button to change the scale bar and measurement units to the units you would like.
Select by Rectangle Select by Rectangle: Click or drag a rectangle on the map to spatial select features of the active theme.
Select by Line/Polygon Select by Line/Polygon: Click on the map (WAIT FOR A NEW PAGE AFTER EACH CLICK) to create a geometric shape that is used to select features of the active theme.
Clear Selection Clear Selection: Click this button to clear the current selection on the active theme.
Print Print: Click this button to open the print dialog in which you can create a printable map.


Please Note: This application is best viewed at a minimum resolution of 1024x768.

The SID Viewer Online Application will open in a new browser window. The window will appear without the browser toolbar and menubar to provide the maximum available space for the application. To return to this page press the close button to exit the application or minimize the application's active window.
