Established in 1969 by the Canadian International Development Agency, the Centre became part of the Canadian Foreign Service Institute of Foreign Affairs Canada, in 1996. Both the Institute and the Centre are internationally recognized in the area of training and human resources. The Centre is Canada's largest provider of cross-cultural and international training services for internationally-assigned government and private sector personnel.
