1. Opportunities for Canadian consumer standards to consider environmental characteristics of products - $42,050
This research study will review opportunities for Canadian consumer product standards to take environmental aspects into account. Pollution Probe will compare efforts to address environmental aspects of products standards in Canada and the EU.
The key components of this project will be a literature review, a survey of Canadian standards development organizations (to identify processes that can be used to ensure that product standards address environmental impacts), one-to-one interviews, and a draft report that will be reviewed, revised and published
The methodology is appropriate for this project as the literature review will look at both the EU and Canada. The literature review may also help Pollution Probe select appropriate questions to ask Canadian standards development organizations and other organizations that are active in the national standards system. The methodology advisor will help ensure that the scope of the literature is appropriate. The advisor may also help provide advice on the table of contents to ensure the research is presented in a way that will inform and engage stakeholders and help stimulate an appropriate dialogue.
The communications plan for this project will include an internal and external component. The internal component involves setting up expectations and a process for the project team to clearly understand the role that each team member provides; regular communications and meetings in which the team members can share ideas and collectively work out how to best deliver the intended results of this project
The external component will involve working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders; and communicating the results of the project and making it available to government officials, consumer and environmental NGOs through existing networks, such as the STET and the Canadian Environmental Network.
Feedback from Canadian stakeholders, including government officials, SDOs, consumer and environmental NGOs, and the external reviewer, will be used throughout the project to help Pollution Probe create an informed dialogue on opportunities for Canadian consumer product standards to take environmental aspects into account.
