Building the Foundations of the 21st-Century Economy and Society
The Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Program represents a six-year, $680.7-million federal investment in partnership with Ontario, its local governments, and the private sector. The program’s purpose is to invest in urban and rural municipal infrastructure in Ontario; it is expected to stimulate more than $2 billion in capital investment.
Objectives
To improve quality of life by investing in projects that:
• enhance the quality of our environment;
• support long-term economic growth;
• improv community infrastructure; and
• build 21st-century infrastructure through innovative technologies, new approaches and best practices.
Top Priority: Green Municipal Infrastructure
• Water and waste-water management systems
• Solid waste management and recycling
• Energy-efficient buildings.
Other Municipal Infrastructure Priorities
• Local transportation
• Culture and recreation
• Tourism
• Rural and remote telecommunications
• High-speed Internet access for public institutions
• Infrastructure to support affordable housing.
