The Land Administration office of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) is responsible for managing Crown land throughout the NWT. Our specific roles and activities include:

  • Processing applications for land dispositions;
  • Enforcing and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, terms and conditions;
  • Participating in consultation and environmental screening of applications for land dispositions and permits and recommend permit conditions;
  • Providing support to land claim negotiators and the Protected Areas Strategy committee;
  • Developing regional surface land policies in cooperation with the Government of Canada's Northern Affairs Program and the Government of the Northwest Territories.
