NORMIN stores geological information about mineral showings in the NWT and contains references to exploration and geology of the NWT.

About Us

The Geology Division of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development's (DIAND, NT Region) has joined with the geological staff of the Government of the Northwest Territories' Department of Renewable Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development (RWED) to form the Northwest Territories Geoscience Office External link to a non-government of Canada site - A new browser window will open..

What do we do?

The Geology program, monitors and collects data on mining and mineral exploration in the NWT. Specifically we:
  • monitor/track mineral and petroleum exploration activity
  • review assessment reports on mineral and petroleum exploration
  • research metallic mineral deposits
  • provide expertise on diamonds and research Kimberlite locations and related rocks
  • maintain the earth science library
  • develop and maintain the NORMIN and KIM databases

What can we do for you?

  • answer general questions about NWT geology
  • provide information and technical advice to a wide variety of clients including industry, Aboriginal groups, communities and government
  • provide client facilities (i.e. computers, light table etc.)

NORMIN stores geological information about mineral showings in the NWT and contains references to exploration and geology of the NWT. This database can create digital compilations and paper maps using ArcView.
