Certification: A commitment to professional growth

The Certification Council of Early Childhood Educators of Nova Scotia is a non-profit, volunteer organization that is committed to the development of a high quality, professional, certified body of Early Childhood Educators.

Goals:

to improve the quality of care for the children of Nova Scotia, providing assurance to parents, peers and administrators that individuals who have undergone the process of certification have reached a standard of excellence.
to provide a pathway to greater professional development which allows for polishing, upgrading and maintaining of skills.
to provide a consistent and preferred standard for early childhood professionals across the province that encompasses all training backgrounds.
to demonstrate to society as a whole that we are a credible, professional group of educators who are accountable to both ourselves and society.

Who Does What?

Candidate's Role:

conduct a self-evaluation;
observe, share with and evaluate your two peers ;
be observed and assessed by a Validator;
be coached by a facilitator;
be assessed by the Executive of the CCECENS.

Peer's Role:

observe and evaluate your performance and share it with you.

Facilitator's role:

act as a support and mentor of the certification process with the triplet

Validator's role:

review the paperwork of triplet and facilitator, validate their observations, and report to the CCECENS

CCECENS Executive Committee Role:

make a decision, after reviewing all the information, regarding certification status of applicant.

Who Can Be Certified?
Are you either

working with children directly for a regular amount of time per week at least nine months of the year?
a substitute working at least 3 days a week for at least nine months of the year?

Do you have

at least two years experience working directly with children?

Are you a graduate of

a recognized Early Childhood Education (ECE) post secondary education programme?
or
a recognized degree programme with an additional five full time courses related to ECE?
or
a B.Ed. with three of your required courses ECE-related plus 3 additional ECE courses?
