Description
The E-Commerce Consumer Standards Solutions Forum was created as a result of a recommendation emanating from the 22nd meeting of the ISO COPOLCO (Consumer Policy Committee) held in Kyoto, on 22 - 23 May, 2000.
The purpose of the Forum is to facilitate worldwide discussion of the possible role of standards (i.e., standards developed through the formal standards system, at the national and international level) to promote and protect the interests of consumers in their online consumer transactions.
The Forum is designed to provide a mechanism for increasing awareness and promoting constructive discussion of new and existing e-commerce consumer protection initiatives (be they developed through the standards systems or not), and their relevance to existing or potential standards projects. While the focus of this Forum is on the role of formal standards developed through the national and international standards system, it is recognized that enhanced consumer confidence in e-commerce is likely to be the product of a combination of approaches, including inter-governmental agreements, domestic legislative and regulatory techniques, standards developed through the formal standards system, voluntary codes, market-driven redress techniques, and consumer education/information approaches.
