Health Promotion Programs (HPP) was established at the University of Oklahoma in 1985 to meet the growing needs in health promotion and wellness for Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and First Nations people. Annually, HPP conducts the largest Native wellness conferences in North America, including the Wellness & Native Men, Wellness & Native Women, Wellness & Spirituality, and Native Women & Men’s Wellness Conferences. In addition, HPP was one of the first organizations to recognize the need for and, subsequently, conduct a Native Diabetes Prevention Conference, starting back in 1996.

Recognized as the leader in Native wellness and health promotion, HPP works tirelessly to keep the circle strong and draws heavily upon the experience and vision of the program's Planning Circle.
